Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, the largest Government Telecom sector Company had announced the recruitment of 2510 JTOs in the month of September 2016 for which online application form filling will start from Jan 2017. The Government Telecom Giant has started the open recruitment of JTOs after long 7 years. Hence numbers of vacant posts are more this time. As most of Graduate Engineers are aware of the fact that there are very less Government Jobs for Electronics & Communication Engineers, Radio, Computer science, Information Technology, hence the candidates appearing from the above streams have a golden opportunity to work in a Telecommunication Company. Junior Telecom Officer is a Group B/Class II executive post. Some people have a common misconception that it’s a gazetted post but no executive post in Public Sector Enterprise is a Gazetted.

JTO Eligibility Criteria

Final year appearing student or passed out candidates of following branches are eligible to apply for Junior Telecom Officer Post

  • Electronics and Telecommunications.
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Radio
  • Computer Science
  • Information Technology
  • Instrumentation
  • Electronics


  • M.E.or M.Tech. From Government recognized University


  • M.Sc.(Electronics/Computers)

The final year appearing students are eligible provided that they must pass all the semester before the document verification or the date of appointment.

Age Limit

The candidate must have completed the 18 years age as on the date of examination or date of submission of application form and he/she must not be older than 30 years as on the date of submission of application. As per Government of India Rules, relaxation in the upper age limit will be given to following class/category of candidates

  • for Govt Servants relaxation provided up to 5 years
  • For SC/ST candidates relaxation up to 5 years
  • BSNL employees up to 5 Years.
  • For OBC Candidates up to 3 Years
  • For PH category up to 10 years(15 for SC/ST and 13 for OBC)

BSNL JTO Online Application

Applicants who have applied for the GATE 2017 exam and full fill the above said eligibility criteria are eligible to apply online for the Job. Valid GATE Scorecard

BSNL JTO Recruitment is taking place after a 6 to 7 year and upper age limit is higher than any other PSU, So the competition for this job would be more as compared to any other Central Public Sector Undertaking. Hence GATE appearing candidates have to clear the cut off as well as they must require top marks. On the basis of GATE 2017 examination score card or merit list, the company will select top rankers from the respective branches. They will be intimated via call letter. Selected person has to follow the further instruction like Medical Fitness Test, Documents verification etc from BSNL authorities to get the job there.

BSNL JTO Posting

After successful qualifying, the examination candidate has to undergo medical and fitness test before joining. This will be routine checkup and almost all successful candidates clear it easily. The fitness test is conducted in Government Medical hospitals & Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the district issues the certificate for fitness. A routine PVR (Police verification Report) is conducted by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and certificates are also verified. After completion of all the process, the successful candidates are called for training. The training is given to the selected candidates for a period of 14 Weeks (10 weeks classroom training and 4-week field training).

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is providing service in all over India. So there are high chances that newly recruited Junior Telecom Officer is to get posted in his choice of state. During the online application, candidates have to fill the five choices of circle or state in which they would want to get posted. I request applicants to make your choices wisely as you need to work minimum 5 years in 1st posting location. Although, you can apply for the change of district within the state, just after completion of 2 years of regular service. But 1st posting state change application can be considered only after completion of 5 years of regular service.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited gives priority to top rankers for to be posted in the 1st choice of state. If there is no vacant position available in the selected 5 states then BSNL can post the candidate as per the requirement & vacant position in a place.

Pay scale and Salary in hand

As per recruitment advertisement, the successful applicant will be appointed as Junior Telecom Officers at E1 (16400-40500) pay scale. He/she would get the gross salary of 50k to 55k per month after the appointment in the company. As 3rd PRC implementation is due from 01.01.2017 so this may further increase around 20% after the pay revision.

Service Bond

All successful candidates have to sign a bond agreement with the PSU to serve at least 5 years in the Company from the date of appointment.
