Tips to crack BSNL Junior Engineer Exam

There are three section -General Ability (220 questions, Basic Engg(90 question) & Specialization (90 question) . It will be having the sectional cut-off for each section. Generally, it is seen that aspirants ignore General Ability paper and couldn’t qualify its cut-off, so all effort in other section will not be counted. Let us see all section one by one

General Ability

Sectional cut off for this section is 6 marks for OC candidates. So candidates can set the target of 10 marks in this section. It can be easily achieved by studying General Knowledge books & English book of competitive exams.

Basic Engineering

Sectional cut off for this section is 27 marks for OC candidates. This is most scoring part of the whole syllabus. Candidates should try for at least 75 marks in the Basic engineering section. All topics specified in this section are common for all eligible engineering or diploma streams. Topics are very simple and scoring, so candidates should not leave anything Basic engineering topics.


This is the last section of syllabus of 90 marks & here also cut off marks are 27. Total 7 topics are there in specialization part. Here you can keep your target for 40 marks. It means average 12 or 13 marks will be exam from each topic. It is most tough section mainly for Computer, IT, BSc MSc etc in the entire syllabus. Candidates must prepare at least three topics thoroughly so that they can clear the sectional cut-off marks. From remaining topics reading only basics things would be sufficient.

Now if you add target marks of all three sections, the total set by a candidate would be around 125 marks out of 200. For an all India exam, 125 marks (62.5%) are sufficient for the selection in the examination.

    i m cs student so my specialization is computer. for cs students the questions is from cs part is necessary so question came from
    why all parts?

    1. Specialization paper is same for all. It means everyone has to prepare for all subjects mentioned in syllabus. For all streams there is no option to choose subject of your choice.

    1. Paper will be prepared with all topic mentioned in part III syllabus so all topics are mandatory. I recommend you to first study easy topics (topics in which you have interest), thereafter you can study basic things about remaining topics.

    I am Pradip Shah I have completed registrations for bsnl je . but their is doubt in postal address part I have written C/O jyoti electronics,New Hasimara but in my Aadhar Card the C/O jyoti electronics is not written there only New Hasimara is written on Aadhar Card is creates any problem during document verification of bsnl je.

  3. If a student is selected, will he get placement in his home district? Is there any cutoff to get home district and do we have to give preferences of district after the time of selection?

Thanks….scientific calculator (i.e 991MS) is allowed in the examination ? and in the microprocessor content in TTA specialization syllabus, which microprocessor i have to study ? basic 8085? and also which microcontroller. Can u give me a specific syllabus of “microprocessor” content (i.e assembly languages of M/C or M/P and others)

    1. If you feel that microprocessor is hard subject, you should study only basics of 8085 & the exact topic mentioned in syllabus & leave other material on this subject.

  5. sir the problem is that ibps posting a candidate into out of home state.and please tell after how many years they transfer posting into their residence state?

    1. In terms of salary & facilities IBPS PO is better than BSNL JE job. IBPS is purely non technical job whereas BSNL JE is a technical post. So depending upon your interest you can choose one of them.

  6. Hiii… I have a question…. 1) Is there any negative marking system in the examination. If yes than how much negative mark for 1 wrong answer. 2) All questions are for 1 mark or may be 2 or 3 marks questions will be in both 90 marks sections . 3) All are MCQ type or you have to find answer and then write (SQ type) or both?

    1. 1. Yes, there is a negative marking in BSNL TTA exam. It is not yet declared by BSNL that how much marks will be deducted on wrong answer.
      2. Each question in all sections will carry 1 mark only.
      3. All questions will be Objective type questions & have only single answers correct.

    hi as i am already working in rural engineering services in cg . should i have to inform my department before giving bsnl tta written exam.
    or at the time of document verification bsnl would ask my previous job.

    1. Yes you should inform to your department that you have applied for BSNL TTA vacancy. Don’t take permission just intimate them & take a receipt copy of that for future use.
