Salary of Bihar Police Sub Inspector, Constable and DSP after 7th CPC

Bihar police department is under Department of Home Affairs and it is headed by Director General Of Police  Headquarter at Patna. The whole Bihar State divided into four zones named as, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga    Muzaffarpur, and Patna. The Zones are further subdivided into ranges. Each police zone in Bihar is headed by either Additional Director General or Inspector General.


The district’s headquarters which are headed y Superintendent of Police comes under the control of Ranges and each range is having around three to 6 districts.

The total employees of the department are 67,964 and the total sanctioned strength is 97314.

Police Constable Salary

The Government of Bihar conducted the recruitment of constable in the year of 2017 for the total 9900 post through an open competitive examination. If someone wants to be a Constable in Bihar, s/he must be 12th or Higher Secondary School Exam pass from the Govt recognized board and age should be in between 18 to 25 Years.


His/her age should be between 18 to 25 Years. The upper age limit is relaxed for the SC,/ST/OBC/PwD candidate.

The minimum height of the candidate should be 165cm for general category candidate, 162cm for the EBC and 160cm for the SC/ST candidates. In the case of a Female applicant, the minimum height is 155cm.

Selection Procedure

There is also a written test conducted for the Constable post. The exam paper duration is 1 hour in which each candidate provided 100 number of questions. Each question will carry one mark. Minimum 30 marks are compulsory to qualify in this examination. Based on the performance in the examination merit list is prepared and total 5 times candidates will be called to appear in the physical test.

Physical Screening test

The Physical screening test consists of following three stages and candidate has to qualify in each one to get eligible for the next round of the exam.

  1.  Race of 1.6Km & 1Km for Male & Female respectively – 50 Marks
  2. Shot Put (Gola Fenk): 25 Marks
  3. High Jump: 25 Marks

On the basis of performance in the Physical Screening test, a category wise final merit list will be prepared by the department for the final selection. The top candidates as per requirement published in the advertisement will be offered called letter to join Bihar state police department in the pay band of 5200-20200 Grade Pay 2000.


The Bihar Police Constable revised basic pay after the 7th Pay Commission report implementation is 21700.

A constable get the total amont of 27000 per month immediately after appointment in the service after 7th pay commision.

Bihar Police Sub Inspector

The Sub Inspector post is a group C post in the Bihar. The post is filled by both promotions from the Head constable post and direct recruitment from the open market. The Bihar Police Sub Ordinate Service Commission had released the notification for the Sub Inspector in the excise department. If you want to be an SI in Bihar state, you should be a graduate or equivalent degree from the government recognized University. The age of the candidate should be between 20 to 37 years.

The age is relaxed for the reserve category applicants.

Selection procedure

Preliminary Exam Pattern

It will have following two papers

1st paper: Hindi

Both Prelim & Main Recruitment examination will have a penalty of 0.2 marks on each wrong answer by the applicant. So each wrong answer will deduct 0.2 marks from the total.

Physical Screening test

A physical screening test is qualifying in nature and no marks will be awarded.

Final merit list will be based on the written examination test marks but the candidates have to clear the physical efficiency test to get their name to be listed in the final result.


After final selection, the candidate will be appointed as Sub Inspector in the pay scale of 9300-34800 Grade pay 4200. As 7th CPC has already been implemented in the Bihar state. Hence the Sub Inspector in Bihar would get 49,000 of gross payment per month after the 7th pay commission and that sounds good at the initial stage of career.

Bihar DSP Salary

As like the Sub Inspector, the DSP post position can be be filled by the direct recruitment through BPSC & departmental internal promotions as per the recruitment rules.

To become a DSP, candidate must be a Graduate from a recognized university or college, after getting appointment in the post s/he appointment in the pre-revised pay scale of 9,300 – 34,800 Grade Pay 5400.
