The lowest cadre in Chhattisgarh Police is Constable (Aarakshak) whose position in the 7th CPC pay matrix is on Level-5. The immediate higher post is of Head constable whose pay scale after 7th Pay Commission 25300 – 80500.

CG DSP: Job Profile

DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police)  take care of office duties in administration as well as fieldwork. She/he assists Superintendent of Police,  who is in charge of police force in the  district level. On the basis delegation of powers,  he/ she  controls and supervises  prosecution branch, traffic branch,  police line,  or  district  crime branch. This is a class 1  gazetted post.

DSP conducts policing in close cooperation and collaboration with civil administration and police headquarters in the state.DSP has a big responsibility for maintaining law and order and tackling the Naxalite insurgency. The post has discretionary powers needed to deal with tricky situations.

In large cities, DSP performs additional duties, such as collecting intelligence and communicating intelligence to higher levels. He/ She is accountable for maintaining discipline, time management, inspiring and motivating the subordinate staff as well as monitoring the operational efficiency of the police force.

 The DSP may take over or supervise case critical investigations, prepare special reports for the DIG or conduct additional operations on behalf of  CBI or other agencies, based on special powers given.

He/ she has to advise Deputy Commissioner office for promulgating prohibitory orders or curfew in extreme cases.   In addition, there could be crowd control responsibilities during festivities,  rallies or demonstrations or campaigns.

 Sub Inspector Job Profile

Sub Inspector(SI) is the most important post among the police force at field level. He/she shoulders critical responsibilities as Police station in charge. Generally, SI has to guide and supervises Asst Sub Inspector, Head Constable as well as  Constables. Nature of  Duties might differ between urban Thana, village  Thana and railway thana Normally SI may work in general /day shift but he/she is on call round the clock. He/she has to spend a lot of time in the office, but often being in the field is equally important.

The SI, in general, maintains law and order, plans to prevent disturbances, investigates and files cases in court. As in charge of Thana, he/she must do a lot of paperwork and maintain records.

Min  Education: Candidate must have  graduated from a recognized university

Constable Job Profile

Constable is the lowest rank in the police force. Important duties include regular patrolling,  preventing crime, providing  VIP security, work in Thana office or district HQ, maintain records, assisting  SI in the investigation, traffic duties,  maintain order during rallies.
