Coal India Limited (CIL) is one of the largest Maharatna PSU Company in India headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal. It is the largest coal producing company in the world.

Career Growth

This is the post of MANAGEMENT TRAINEE in E2 grade. It means selected candidates will be appointed in a Junior Management level of the company. They get fast time-bound promotions up to some level.

Coal India Limited operates through 81 mining areas from 8 states of India. So the successful candidates can be placed anywhere in these 81 mining areas.

Management Trainee PAY Scale

  • The pay scale for the post of MANAGEMENT TRAINEE in E2 grade will be Rs. 50,000 – 1,60,000 at the initial basic pay of Rs. 50,000 during the period of the first year i.e., Training Period.
  • After the successful completion of training, the candidates will be standardized to E3 grade wherein the pay scale will be Rs. 60,000 – 1,80,000 at the initial basic pay of Rs. 60,000 with probation for one year.

In addition to the above salary new Management Trainee also get company accommodation or HRA, Performance-related pay, superannuation benefits, Leave traveling allowances etc.  These Allowances may vary depending on the place of posting, the performance of the company & individual. The total CTC of a CIL MT post will be more than 14 Lakh which is a very nice amount for a fresh graduate.


  • The candidates will have to serve the company for a minimum period of 5 years. An amount of Rs. 5000/- will be debited from candidate’s salary for 60 months. For this, the candidates need to sign a Service Agreement Bond.
  • The successful candidates will have to go through a medical examination conducted by the medical board of the company and any decision made by the board will be final.

    • Last time CIL conducted their own examination. But most of the PSUs are using GATE score for the recruitment of Engineer. It would be better to prepare for GATE.

  2. Sir, i had completed my graduation as EEE engineer in 2013 and i have 4 year experience as site engineer and supervisor. But i didn’t write GATE one time also. is there any post relevant to me.

    • Yes, there are so many posts for Electrical Engineers. After implementation of 3rd PRC, some PSUs are offering more than 1Lakh salary to the employees.

    • It seems s from their advertisement that they recruit both male & female. Posting places or job profile decided on the basis of vacant positions in particular department. However, at the time of training, you can write a request letter to post in a specific place or section.

    • Your revised basic pay will be 130000 from 01.01.2017. As HRA, Perks, PRP & allowances vary from company to company & place of posting. So add these values in basic pay to get the gross salary.

    • It will be an office job handling the company communications with outside agencies like other govt departments, public grievance, media etc.

  4. what is the profile of finance mt in cil. How shall I prepare for finance mt interview. What is the interview process and what type of questions are asked in interview.

    • Yes, they have the head office located at Kolkata. If you meet with higher authorities and represent your case in writing, you may get posting at desired place.

    • Finance people have the indoor jobs only. Just check the office locations of Coal Indias Official website. It may have the list of such places. You will get the answer.

    I have one year of experience at Investment Banking firm and right now I m into temporary teaching for CA CPT students and have started practicing also. But not sure what will be the long-term benefit if I Join Coal India. have appeared for the exam conducted and paper well went. What will be the challenges and profile for finance and accounts stream persons? And what will be the in hand salary of mine? Also, can you explain how the promotion will be there after a 2years end?     • Finance person does indoor office job but they have heavy workloads during the month end & year end. As Coal India is Maharatna Company, you definitely get a better pay. During the first year, the salary of MT will more that 60K thereafter it will increase by around 15k to 20k. As next pay revision i.e. 3rd PRC also due from 01.01.2017, after implementation of this salary would be further increased by 15% or more. MTs are promoted after completion of 3 or 4 years of regular service on the basis of performance.

    • It depends on the vacancies available at a particular place. So if vacancies are there at Mumbai, someone may get posted.

  6. What will be the profile for Management Trainee HR? Where will the selected candidates be deputed in India? Are these postings for factory level or corporate office locations?

    • MT HR job is an indoor or office work related to management of manpower resources, organizing meetings, scheduling training & seminars etc.

    • Marketing doesn’t mean to fetch only new customers but it also has the role to retain & provide prompt support to existing customers. Marketing officers are the face of any company, they remain in the front end to know customer needs & requirements. Marketing Officers has to be in the loop until the product is supplied to the customer. The supplying of material to others companies is a continuous process in all companies.

    • IT management trainees are posted for the day to day activities of Office Local area Networt maintenance, Internet connectivity, Office Softwares, Computer, Laptop, etc. It would be the indoor job in CIL.
