Indian government and state government of Himachal Pradesh both were involved in its establishment. It is funded and administered by MHRD.
The institution offers engineering and technology courses in various branches and streams. World Bank ranked it as the best NIT college on the basis of its infrastructure in 2007. Also, the institute is awarded AAA grade which is a great achievement for the campus. Admission criteria is based on IIT JEE Mains exam score and rank. JEE entrance exam is the only way to get into NIT Hamirpur.
The placement scenarios are great here. There is a big list of companies like Reliance, Afcons Infrastructure, Alstom, Analytics Quotients etc. that visit campus for placement activities. University Institute of Information Technology, Shimla

The institution got AICTE approval in 2006 and mainly offer the course in the textile and mechanical, ECE and Civil engineering. The institution is spread over 2.6726 hectares of land and has excellent facilities required for appropriate technical education. Also, the institution is ranked 121 among all the other colleges on the basis of popularity.
The admission is accepted via JEE exam and HPCET entrance test. The branches are allotted to the respective students on the basis of their score and rank in these two competitive entrance exam tests. Placement scenarios are not that great here. However, the institution has separate placement cell that is trying really hard to add the number of companies to the recruiter’s list.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Govt Institute of Engineering & Technology
As the name suggests, the institution is a tribute to late Atal Bihari Bajpai. ABVGIET Shimla is a government engineering college affiliated to HimTU and approved by AICTE, Delhi. The institution is located at Pragati Nagar, Kotkhai, Himachal Pradesh, and was established in 2011. The institution is funded and administered by the HP state government and know to offer great academic course and facilities to deserving students.
The admission in all the engineering branches is accepted via IIT JEE and HPCET exam. Placement scenario is struggling and fluctuating here. There only a few companies that use to visit campus. However, the institution organizes so many off-campus placements drives to place the students.
Rajiv Gandhi Government Engineering College, Kangra
Established in 2014, its another finest engineering college by HP Government that is offering great engineering education and courses from last 4 years. RGGEC Kangra is a newly established college that is trying really hard to make a mark in the educational engineering field and succeeding in its mission. The institution is affiliated to HIMTU and approved by AICTE, Delhi. The institution offer engineering courses in several core engineering branches including mechanical and electrical engineering branches.
There is no rank given to this institution but with time its gaining popularity among students. Admission criteria is based on HPCET and accept admission only through it. JEE score is also considered for admitting students in engineering branches. The placement percentage is growing here with time. Considering 2017 placement, more than 65% of the total students were placed with decent packages.
Mahatma Gandhi Govt. Engineering College Jeori
established in 2015, the institution is a tribute to the father of nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. It’s another newly established institution affiliated to HimTU and approved by AICTE, Delhi. MGGEC Jeori is a growing institution and gaining popularity with time. The first batch will get pass out in 2019 so we will have to wait to see the kind of placement opportunities it will offer.
