ISM, (INDIAN SCHOOL OF MINES) Dhanbad was sanctioned By the British, in response to one of the demands of the Indian National Congress, which was put forth in the year 1901.It was inaugurated by Lord Irwin ( Viceroy of India) in the year 1926. It was meant to cater to the requirement of qualified manpower for the mining sector in India. It became a Deemed(to be) University in the year 1967. With continuous growth and innovation, it became the repository of learning and knowledge in the field of engineering and technology, through dedicated research. It has a number of patents to its credit. It became IIT(ISM) in the year 2016.
The institute is located in Dhanbad, which is the headquarter of the coal mining business. This coal belt provides the critical metallurgical quality coking coal to steel and other metal industries. It is a vast world class campus with latest academic infrastructure. ISM is one of the few academic institutions that award D. Sc. for the academic work of the highest order.
The institute offers 13 B Tech courses of 4-year duration and another 26 M Tech courses in popular streams. Integrated (B Tech + M Tech) course is offered in 5 streams. M B A, M Phil as well as Ph.D. courses are also offered in most of the streams. Admission to B Tech as well as integrated B Tech+MTech courses is made on the basis of JEE(Advanced) rank. The National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur ( NIT, Jamshedpur ), is one of the prestigious colleges of Jharkhand State. It has been declared as “ Institute of National Importance”.It was founded by the Govt. in 1960, at Adityapur locality of a township of Jamshedpur, when it was part of Bihar State. Then it became one of the eight prestigious regional engineering colleges of the country. It was transformed into an NIT in 2002 and declared a deemed to be University. It is directly controlled by Central Govt. through MHRD.
The college offers B Tech degree courses in seven disciplines and numerous PG courses (such as MSc, MCA and as M Tech) as well as Ph. D. The B Tech Admission is carried out on the basis of all India rank in JEE(Advanced).Admission to PG courses is conducted on the basis of GATE score and Common entrance for MCA( NIT MCA ). Placement continues to be good in Computer science and engineering whereas in many other streams placement is not so great. The institute is able to attract good faculty.
National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology (NIFFT) Ranchi
The NIFFT, Ranchi was founded by Central Govt. in 1966, with UNDP-UNESCO assistance and collaboration, in Ranchi, now the capital of Jharkhand State. It conducts B Tech, M Tech Advanced diploma as well as Ph. D. programs related to the foundry, forging as well as many other disciplines. UG programs are offered in two streams, whereas PG courses are offered in four different specializations.
Admission for B Tech courses is conducted on the basis of all India JEE ranking. M Tech admissions are based on Gate score. The institute is controlled by MHRD. Good faculty, as well as lab facility, have been provided in the institute. Placement record of the institute continues to be good as more than 75% students get placement. The campus has modern infrastructure and very good learning environment.
BIT Sindri, Dhanbad
Birsa Institute of Technology (BIT), Sindri was established by the state govt. as the College of Mech. and Elect. Engg in the year 1949 in the capital city of Patna. A year later it was relocated to Sindri. Now the institute is approved by AICTE. It is one of the reputed colleges in eastern India. It is offering 10 UG courses and 6 postgraduate courses. Placement cell is active for organizing the placement of final year students. Percentage of students getting placed is not very high. But reputed companies visit the campus for recruitment. The college has good infrastructure as well as qualified faculty. It is affiliated to the Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh.
University College of Engineering and Technology, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh
UCET, Hazaribagh was established in 2009. It offers UG courses in four streams. It is approved by AICTE. It is a part of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag, which was established in 1992.The college has a good campus. Admission is conducted on the basis of rank in JCECE Jharkhand combined entrance competitive examination.
Training and placement cell provides placement guidance to students.
