IIT Ropar

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar was established in 2008 by MHRD, Government of India. Its permanent campus is located at Rupnagar, around 42 km away from Chandigarh.  Ropar district is deeply connected to (Harappan); Indus Valley Civilization.

The institute has an excellent campus with sports complexes, modern labs, library as well as other infrastructure.  It encourages research as well as innovation.  Industry collaboration and sponsored research and consultancy projects are an important part of the institute. It has the strong support of the alumni association.

IIT Ropar offers B Tech in 5 streams.  A  Dual degree course (B Tech + M Tech), regular M Tech, MS as well as a Ph.D. program are also offered.  Admission to UG courses is offered on the basis of JEE (ADV) examination.

Dr. BR Ambedkar NIT, Jalandhar

Dr. BR Ambedkar NIT, Jalandhar was established in 1987 as PREC (Punjab Regional College of Engineering). In 2002, it became NIT with the status of deemed to be a university. In 2007, it was declared an “Institute of National importance”

It has 9 streams of B Tech courses; MSc, MBA, M Tech as well as doctorate programs are also offered. UG admissions are done on the basis of JEE (Adv.) ranking. M Tech candidate selection is done on the basis of GATE score.

The institute is able to provide internships, industry exposures as well as placement to its students. The campus is visited by reputed large and medium multinational enterprises for selection of final year students. Many students receive more than one offer. Preplacement training and discussions also help the students. Major recruiters include Reliance Petro Chem, Infosys, Amazon, Hero Motor Corp. and others.

Punjab Engg College(Deemed to be University) PEC

PEC, Chandigarh had its historical roots in Lahore, dating back to 1921, as Mugalpura Engg College. It moved to new campus in Chandigarh, in  1952 and got affiliated to Punjab University. In the year 2003, the college got the deemed to be University status. In 2009 it got the name PEC University of Technology.

The PEC University of Technology offers 8 undergraduate(B Tech) courses and 14 PG (M Tech ) courses. Doctorate program to is available. Undergraduate admissions are based on JEE(Main) and PG admissions are made on the basis of GATE score.

Institutes placement record is very good in some streams of engineering. Regular visitors for recruiting include, American Express, Amazon,  Microsoft, McKinsey,  Goldman Sachs, as well as others.

College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology  Ludhiana

The College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Ludhiana, was founded in 1964. It was a constituent of “ Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana”.  Ford Foundation provided the grant for the college at the initial stage for developing modern labs. The alumni of the college occupy important positions in prestigious organizations all over the world. New technology developed through research has helped the farmers.

COAET College offers B Tech in Agricultural engg and PG courses( like M Tech, MCA )and Ph.D. programs. The placement cell of the college provides placement opportunity as well as good industry exposure to students.


BCET was established in Gurdaspur,  by the state govt in  1995.College offers  B Tech in 7 streams as well as M Sc and M Tech programs. Apart from providing placement assistance it also encourages entrepreneurship.

Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Nankana Sahib

Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Nankana Sahib was established in 1956. It was established in the birthplace of GURU NANAK Dev.

The College is now affiliated to I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) and has been conferred autonomous status.

GNDEC was declared “The Best Engg College” during 2011 to 2014 on account of superior placements within the group of affiliated colleges of the university. Placements were very good in certain branches. The college signed MOUs with world-class universities for faculty exchange as well as student exchange.

The college offers UG courses in 7 disciplines. Fifteen PG courses, as well as doctoral programs, are also offered. Admission to UG courses is based on JEE ranking.

GURU NANAK DEV University, Amritsar

GNDU was established in Amritsar in 1969. It is ranked 16 among top 50 universities. Among many another course, the university offers UG courses in electronics and communications and Computer science and engg. PG and doctorate level courses are also offered. UG engineering admissions are based on JEE(Main). University has good placement record. It has good research facility.

Sent Lingual Institute of Engg & Technology

Sant Longowal Institute of Engg & Technology was founded in 1985. It offers B Tech in six streams and a number of PG courses.

UG Admission is based on SET (SLIET entrance test).

SLIET Sangrur College has good placements in some streams. Prominent recruiters at the campus include Honda, ISGEC, TCS, Wipro, L&T,  GE India,  Godrej, HP, LG, Mahindra & Mahindra, Microsoft, Reliance, Infosys, Hewlett Packard,  Shell and others.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus, Ferozepur

Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical campus, earlier known as  Shaheed Bhagat Singh  College of Engineering and Technology was founded by the state govt at  Ferozepur in 1995.the college offers UG courses in 6 streams. PG Courses such as MCA and MTech are also available.

Major companies visit campus for candidate selection.

Malout Institute of Management and Information Technology, Malout

Malout Institute of Management and Information Technology was established in 1998. It is the only Govt College to conduct B Tech as well as MBA program together in Punjab state. It offers B Tech in 4 streams, M Tech as well as MBA courses.

The institute signed MOU for collaboration with CISCO Inc., as well as Sun Microsystems. It has moderate placements.


Most of the Govt engineering colleges are having the advantage of stronger industry collaboration. They have good placement in some departments. Colleges have good infrastructure and qualified faculty.
