Indian Navy is the naval branch of Indian armed forces. Indian navy is inviting various applications from the eligible candidates for the posts o boat crew I both Group B and Group C categories. It gives a sparkling opportunity to those candidates who dream to serve our country in this department. Some of the posts are the senior engine driver, engine driver, greaser, fireman etc.  selected applicants will serve in any of the units under administrative control means that they can be posted anywhere in India like in Vishakhapatnam or in Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Knowledge of Storm and distress signals, charts and compass.

Certificate of Competency as 1st Class Engine Driver.

Not less than 2 years’ service on a vessel of not less than 400 B.H.P. as Incharge.

Must have permit from Mercantile Marine Department for Class III Driver.

2 years’ experience as Crew Engine Room.

Greaser18 - 37

10th Pass Plus

3 years’ service in a Sea going vessel.

Desirable: Certificate of having completed pre-sea training course.

Fireman18 - 37

10th Pass AND

Must know swimming

Desirable: Certificate of having completed pre-sea training course/one years’ service in a workshop/Engine Room/Boiler Room.


Selection procedure

Mode of selection

Shortlisting of applicants: as you know the number of applications received is too large according to the vacancies so it is not possible to call all the candidates for written examination. Indian navy will shortlist candidates as per their merit in the ratio of 1:25 to the number of vacancies.

Scheme of written examination: all shortlisted candidates will have to appear for the written examination as per scheduled. The written examination consists of objective type questions based on essential/ desirable qualification.

Physical endurance test and swimming test

Candidates who are successfully qualified the written examination test will be called for physical endurance and swimming test. This test is mandatory for all the selected candidates.

Standards of physical endurance and swimming test are:

  • Running: 800 meters in 7 minutes
  • Swimming test: 50 meters followed by 2:30 minutes
  • Floating and 05 meters jump.

Provisional appointment letter

The candidates who are successfully completed both the rounds finally those candidates got the appointment letter and documents verification. After the completion of all rounds finally, candidate got the joining letter.

The Master Grade-I and Senior Engine Driver are the Group C post and have the highest salary among the advertised posts. The minimum payment to these officer/official are 45000/- per month after the 7th Pay Commission.

The Master Grade-II and Engine Driver-II calsswill get Rs 37000 per month as a compensation from the Indian army after the appointment in the post.

The Lascar Grade-I, Greaser and Fireman have the lowest salary among all. But still, it’s a decent amount at at starting of the job after 10th class.
