ISRO has the basic goal of adopting and applying latest space technology to address the pressing socio-economic requirements of the nation. To fulfill this goal ISRO has set up two dominant systems INSAT as well as IRS System. INSAT provides support to TV program broadcasting, telecom services as well as the Indian meteorological systems. The IRS( Indian-Remote-Sensing-Satellite system) assists in disaster management as well as tracking and controlling the application of natural resources.
The IRS system satellites are being utilized in optimizing groundwater as well as other resources of water and land, They are also useful in managing natural disasters, planning urban and rural infrastructure, protecting the environment and maintaining forest cover.
The communication satellite systems developed by ISRO contributed to the growth of technology in the nation. The INSAT system of modern satellites is probably the largest national system of sophisticated satellite systems offering services in the fields of weather prediction and forecasting, telecom, news media, and entertainment media broadcasting, DTH service, Internet services as well as business communications networks. New Applications of INSAT and IRS satellite systems include distance (Tele) education and training, extending health services to remote areas through “ Tele-medicine” and supporting disaster management systems in remote inaccessible locations.
To meet the emerging aviation needs, ISRO is developing GAGAN ( GPS guided Geo Augmented Navigation), in collaboration with AAI (Airport Authority of India). A separate IRNSS (Indian regional satellite navigation system) is being developed in this context.
Based on the objectives of the project, Engineer -Scientists’ responsibility will be closely related to component/subassembly/ subsystem design, design parameter assessment, prototype testing of subassemblies/ subsystems and final testing.
They have opportunities to work on advanced technologies that help the development of new infrastructure for spaceflight projects. As computer Engineer, they maintain the large scale of databases and high-end space technology software.
