Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), a Navratna company, is a state-owned telecommunication provider, which chiefly serves in the Indian metro cities of Mumbai and New Delhi. It was brought into being on 1 April 1986. The company also prolong its service in Nepal and Mauritius. The company serves in sundry telecommunication fields such as fixed line, mobile telephony, wired and wireless, Broadband, Fibre-to-the-home, dial-up internet, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and digital television. In 2010, the company salaried it’s 45,000 employees. The company engendered a revenue of $788.7 million with net income of $-567.5 million in the year 2010. Job Description

Essential Qualification

The applicants shall possess a full-time Bachelor Degree in Engineering ( B.E. / B.Tech. / Equivalent Engineering Degree ) in disciplines cited below:

  • Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering
  • Computer Science Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering

The minimum qualifying marks that applicants of different categories should have in each discipline are:

  • General / OBC candidates: 60% marks
  • SC / ST / PWD candidates: 55%

Selection Procedure

The applicants will undergo numerous selection procedures cited in the ensuing points:

  1. It is duty bound for every applicant to apply and appear in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination which is held every year because MTNL will utilize the score card of GATE.
  2. Based on the result of GATE, the candidate will be then called for the second stage of the selection process that is document verification in the descending order of merit list.
  3. After the successful verification of documents, the company will give final appointment letter to the worthy candidates.

Training & Placements

After receiving the appointment letter, the successful candidates will be called for On-the-Job induction training for a period of 12 months. After the completion of the training, the candidates will be then placed on a probation for one year. At last finally, after two years which comprises one year of training and another year of probation, the candidates will be promoted to the designation of Junior Telecom Officer.

At present, the company only operates in two major cities that are Mumbai and New Delhi. So the candidates can expect their posting places to be either Mumbai or New Delhi.

Points to be noted

  1. According to company rule, before joining, all the candidates will undergo a medical examination with strictly no relaxation given in such case.
  2. The candidates will be asked to submit a Service Agreement Bond worth ₹2,00,000/- affirming to serve the company for a period of minimum 5 years after joining.

  4. Relaxation in Upper Age Limits:
    1. For OBC Non-Creamy Layers (NCL) candidates: 3 years

      • SC/ST/Ex-Serviceman: 15 years
