India’s largest Power generation company has announced the recruitment of Diploma Engineer in various power plants in the Patna, Lucknow, Secunderabad, Mumbai and Raipur regions. The polytechnic college passed out candidates with minimum of 70%  in the stream of Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation can apply for the job online through NTPC official website.

Age Limit

The Maximum age limit for the candidate is 25 Years as on the last date of Online application i.e. 09/05/2018.

In the case of Land Oustees, the upper age limit is 35 Years as on the last date of application.

The relaxation in the age limit will be as per Govt of India guidelines.

Eligible Diploma Branches

The following Diploma in Engineering branches candidates are eligible to apply in this Maharatna Company job.

ElectricalFull-time regular Diploma in Electrical Engineering OR Electrical & Electronics with minimum 70% marks.
MechanicalFull-time regular Diploma in Mechanical Engineering OR Production with minimum 70% marks.
C&IFull time regular Diploma in Electronics OR Instrumentation Engineering with minimum 70% marks.

Application fees

Those who want to appear in the job examination have to pay application fee of Rs 300/-. The candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PWD category need not pay the fee.

NTPC Diploma Engineers Selection process

The eligible candidate will have to appear two-stage computer based online test.


It is an online test consist multiple choice question on the following subject

  1. General English
  2. Quantitative Aptitude
  3. Logical Reasoning

Total 2 hours will be provided for 120 questions. Each correct answer will add one mark to candidate score. However, a wrong answer will deduct 1/4 marks. The marks obtained in this section won’t be considered in the final selection.

Minimum Qualifying marks for the stage-I test

  • General category: 40%
  • SC/ST/OBC/PWD: 30%


Based on the performance in stage one 10 time candidate of total seats will be called for the second round.

2nd round test is a technical computer-based paper. The feature of this tests are as follows

  • Total Number of questions: 120
  • Duration in Hours: 2Hours
  • Total marks: 120
  • Marks awarded: 1 (On each correct answer)
  • Negative marking: 0.25 (On each wrong answer)
  • Minimum qualifying marks will be the same as the Stage-I exam.

Final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the technical test. There is no interview or skill test.

The successful candidate will be called for document verification and medical test. The medical test will be very general in nature.

After all, the formality candidate will have to go through the 2-year extensive training. During the training, they will be paid the consolidated amount of Rs 15500/- per month.

After the training they will be placed in the pay scale of  15500- 34500 in W7 Grade. This pay will increase after the implementation of 3rd PRC guidelines.

Bond period

The success diploma holders have to sign the bond amount of Rs 100000/- (General and OBC) and Rs 50,000/- (SC/ST/PWD) with NTPC. The duration of the bond period is 3 Years.
