The state of Rajasthan consists of princely states of pre-independence era. Police departments of the Merging entities had many significant strengths and weaknesses, as the administration and functioning were totally different in each princely state. The merged entity proved its mettle by strengthening professional conduct and effectively dealing with the Dacoits of Chambal valley on one hand and cross-border Smuggling of narcotic drugs and subversive activities of Pakistani spies along the six hundred fifty miles long border with Pakistan. Maintaining law and order in border areas is a great challenge for Rajasthan Police force even today. The total area covered is approximately 342239 square kilometers.
