The Government of India, Ministry of Railways had issued advertisement notice for the recruitment of 26502 Assistant Loco Pilot. These posts are further subdivided for each Railway recruitment board. Here, I will share the Eligibility terms, responsibility & job nature and total salary in hand per month for the ALP post in railways.
Loco Pilot Salary
After the successful selection in RRB ALP examination, a candidate gets appointed in the post of Asst. LP in the pre-revised pay band of 5,200-20,200 with Grade pay of 1,900. The post is a class-IV cadre as per central government employees hierarchy. The 7th Pay Commission has already been implemented in the Railway Department. Hence the revised basic pay of a newly selected ALP is 19,900. The minimum gross salary would be Rupees 28,000/- per month.

The above salary also includes the house rent allowances, provident fund, dearness allowances etc. After completion of each year service, he/she also get annual increment at the rate of 3% on the basis of performance in the job. Loco Pilot Duties
He/she responsible for overall health checkup of a loco (like oil level, fuel, working conditions of brake) and must have a sound knowledge of signals, safety manuals etc.

An Assistant loco pilot can be promoted to Sr. ALP whose grade pay is 2400. The Sr. ALP may become LP Shunter grade-II on the basis of performance. How to become Assistant Loco Pilot
In order to be Loco pilot in Railways department, you need to appear in the examination which is being conductive by respective Railways recruitment board. Here are the detailed eligibility criteria for the post.
The Age of the candidate will be between 18 to 28, however, the relaxation in the age limit will apply to reserved classes as per the government of India rules and guidelines.
10th /12th plus ITI from the government recognized institutes. OR 10th/12th plus Course Completed under Apprenticeship Act.
The exam is divided into two parts
- 1st stage Computer Based Test: It will have 75 questions from Mathematics, Aptitude, Reasoning, Science and General Awareness. The candidate will have 60 minutes to solve the questions.
- 2nd stage Computer-based test: This part has parts named as A & B.
The candidates who have applied for the Assistant Loco Pilot post, they have to undergo one more Computer-based aptitude test after clearing the 2nd stage CBT.
There is a negative marking system in the online examination. So one wrong answer will cost you 1/3 rd of the mark assigned to one questions. So a candidate needs to be careful.
