State Bank of India is the largest bank in Country and a fortune 500 company. The SBI provides the banking services in the most of the part of India even in the rural areas. The bank has released the advertisement for the recruitment of 2000 probationary officers job post. The Bank PO post is equivalent to Class-I post of the central government job. The selected candidates will have the ample of opportunities and can be assigned the task to work in any banking service like Forex, Treasury, credit, Rural Banking etc.
In this post, I will share the all the details of State Bank of India Probationary Officers recruitment process.
The interested candidate can start applying online for the proposed 2118 (2000 plus 118 for PWD candidates) vacancies from 21 April 2018. The whole process is 7 months long. After Preliminary and main examination, the interview is expected to be held on from 24.09.2018. The final result may declare on 01.11.2018. Here is the screenshot of the SBI PO Examination schedule.
SBI PO Vacancies
As I already mentioned that the current notification is for total 2000 vacancies and 118 PWD candidates positions. There is around 38 backlog post for all reserved categories and same is also added in these post. Here is the break up of vacancies category wise.
Vacancies for PWD Candidates
HI: Hearing Impaired, VI: Visual Impairment, LD: Locomotor Disability
A general candidate of not less than 21 years old and not more than 30 years old. The reference date for calculating the candidate age is 01.04.2018. So candidate’s date of birth must fall between the 01.04.1997 to 01.04.1988 (both are inclusive).
The relaxation in the age limit will be as per government rules. The following the table for relaxation category wise.
The minimum qualification to become a Probationary Officer in SBI is the only graduation. The Final Year appearing students also eligible apply for the job provided that they must have the relevant certificate of passing graduation exam on or before 31.08.2018.

SBI PO Recruitment Process
The SBI PO recruitment divided into three parts
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Exam
- Group Task & Interview
Let’s see the details of each step involved
Phase-I Preliminary Examination
It is just to filter out talented candidates from the lakhs of applicants. As per the advertisement, around 20000 will be selected on the basis of marks obtained in the phase-I exam and these selected candidates will get the opportunity to appear in the Phase-II or main exam.
The Preliminary test will be conducted online and will have 100 questions with time limit of 1Hour. The paper will be divided into three parts English Quantitative and reasoning ability. There is a negative marking of one fourth on each wrong answer.
Note: This section has no wieghtage in the final selection. So your rank doesn’t matter in the preliminary examination.
Phase-II Main Examination
The main Examination is divided into two parts Objective and descriptive. Both parts will be conducted online.
As per the advertisement data, around 20K students may get chance to appear in the main examination. This Phase is divided into 4 subsections. The paper difficulty level will be higher as compared to preliminary. You can check the below image for the number of questions and timing.
The total 200 marks are allotted for the objective paper. There is negative marking of ¼ for each wrong answer.
This section carries total 50 marks and the time limit of 30 minutes. It will have two questions only and candidates may be asked to write Essay or Letter writing or both in English language only.
Phase-III Group Exercise and Personal Interview
As per the official advertisement around 6000 top candidates (Based on the marks obtained in the Main Examination) will be called for Group Exercise and Personal Interview. Group exercise carries 20 marks and 30 marks are allotted for personal interview.
The marks obtained in the Main Examination and Group Exercise and Personal Interview will be considered for preparation of final merit list. The weigtage for each phase is shown in table
SBI PO salary
After final selection, the candidate will be appointed as a Probationary Officer in the State Bank of India. He/she may be posted anywhere in India depending upon the vacant positions in various offices across the country.
The initial Basic for SBI PO (A Junior Management Post Grade-I) is 27620 in the pay Scale of Rs 23700-980/7-30560-1145/2-32850-1310/7-42020. Apart from the basic pay every officer will also get the House Rent allowances/Leased Rent (As applicable), Dearness allowances, LTC, Medical benefits etc. The total CTC per annum may vary from 8.2Lacs to 13.08 Lacs depending on the posting location and allowances applicable for job profile.
